November 25, 2009
The Order of Saint Michael recognizes individuals who have contributed significantly to the promotion of Army Aviation in ways that stand out in the eyes of the recipient's seniors, subordinates, and peers. The award was established in 1990 as a joint venture between the Army Aviation Association of America and the U.S. Army Aviation Warfighting Center. A combat veteran, Pete continues to provide outstanding contractor support to the Medical Evacuation Proponency Directorate (MEPD) as the senior MEDEVAC analyst. He has been instrumental in the post Army Aviation transformation efforts across the doctrine, organization, training, materiel, leadership and education, personnel and facilities spectrum, participating in work and study groups resulting in writing MEDEVAC doctrine for recently published Joint and Army evacuation manuals. This doctrine has played a key role in our Army achieving the “lowest died-of-wounds” rate in the history of modern warfare. Possessing a historical knowledge base and working relationship with many organizations on Fort Rucker, Pete provides a unique continuity to MEPD’s director. His loyalty and dedication to the aviation and MEDEVAC mission and community are remarkable. Pete’s contributions are significant and his legacy secure him as one who helped lead, shape, and transform Army Aviation into the premiere organization it is today. The legend of Saint Michael defeating the dragon exemplifies the bravery and gallantry associated with the aviation soldier and the boldness and swiftness of aviation on the battlefield. As a brave warrior and protector, Saint Michael is the embodiment of courage and justice and is an appropriate symbol of excellence in Army Aviation.
